IKEA and Xbox have launched YXSTABY, a nine piece gaming furniture and accessories collection aimed at making console play fit more naturally into shared home spaces. Xbox Wire says the collection is available worldwide in IKEA stores starting October 1, 2026, with online availability planned later this year and market availability varying by location.

The announcement is not about a new console or a cloud gaming feature. Its importance is more practical. Gaming hardware keeps moving into living rooms, bedrooms, and mixed work spaces, but much of the accessory market still treats play as either a desk setup or a display shelf. YXSTABY is Microsoft and IKEA trying to make gaming design look less like a temporary corner of a room and more like normal home infrastructure.

What Changed

According to Xbox, designers from both companies co-developed the collection around comfort, storage, and recognizable Xbox controller forms. The D-pad shape appears as both a cushion and a stainless steel platter. The lineup also includes a mirrored display box for controllers or collectibles, a gaming lounge chair, a monitor stand, a TV stand on castors, a side table on castors, a laptop support with storage, and accessories.

The most specific design crossover is the thumbstick stool. Xbox says it was developed from the original 3D design files for the Xbox Wireless Controller, with the controller grip texture repurposed to help keep a seated person in place. That detail matters because it shows the collaboration is not only a licensing exercise. The companies are using familiar interaction shapes from hardware design as furniture cues.

Why It Matters

For players, the decision value is simple: this collection is for homes where gaming equipment needs to move, disappear, or share space with other daily routines. Castors on TV and side stands point to flexible rooms rather than fixed battlestations. Display storage acknowledges that controllers, figurines, and headsets are often part of the room even when a console is off.

For the industry, the move fits a broader shift toward lifestyle gaming hardware. Microsoft has spent years expanding Xbox beyond a single console box through Game Pass, cloud access, PC play, handheld partnerships, and TV apps. Furniture does not change the platform strategy, but it supports the same idea that gaming should meet people where they already are.

CyberOGZ sees the useful test as availability and restraint. If YXSTABY reaches enough markets at IKEA prices, it could give casual players a cleaner option than specialized gaming furniture. If supply is limited or the designs lean too novelty heavy, it becomes a collectible collaboration instead of a practical home setup upgrade.
