Microsoft starts rolling out Windows 11 version 26H2

Microsoft has started rolling out the Windows 11 2026 Update, also known as Windows 11 version 26H2, for eligible PCs. The update is available now for devices running Windows 11 versions 25H2 and 24H2, with Microsoft using a controlled rollout through Windows Update and business management tools.

The practical change is the delivery model. Microsoft says version 26H2 uses the same servicing foundation as recent Windows 11 releases, so many eligible devices receive it as a small enablement package rather than a full operating system replacement. For users, that should make installation closer to a monthly update, with a smaller download and a single restart when the device is ready.

What changes for users and IT teams

People who want the update early can open Settings, go to Windows Update, and turn on the option to get the latest updates as soon as they are available. Microsoft is still using safeguard holds when it detects compatibility problems, so not every eligible device will see the update at the same time.

Commercial and education customers can deploy version 26H2 through existing tools, including Windows Autopatch and the Microsoft 365 admin center.
