
Marvell plans $250 million India expansion for AI and cloud semiconductor work
Marvell will invest $250 million in India over three years to expand AI and cloud semiconductor R&D capacity.
Marvell Technology says it will invest $250 million in India over the next three years, expanding engineering capacity in Bangalore and Hyderabad as demand for AI, cloud and data infrastructure chips continues to rise.
The company announced the plan on July 29 during a milestone event marking 20 years of Marvell engineering operations in India. Marvell said the money will go toward technology development, talent and infrastructure, including a new wing at its Bangalore office and a larger Hyderabad presence.
Why the expansion matters
The investment is not a new consumer product launch, but it is a meaningful hardware story because it points to where advanced semiconductor design work is moving. Marvell positions itself around data infrastructure, including custom silicon, networking, storage, security and connectivity components used by cloud providers and large enterprise systems. In its announcement, the company tied the India expansion directly to semiconductor solutions for AI, cloud and data infrastructure applications.
Marvell said it plans to double its India headcount over the next three years. The company also described India as its second-largest research and development organization worldwide, with teams in Bangalore, Pune and Hyderabad working on areas such as advanced process technologies, high-speed analog intellectual property, subsystem design, software and firmware development, and end-to-end silicon development.
Talent pipeline gets attention too
The announcement also emphasized workforce development. Marvell highlighted its Marvell Scholarship for Technical and Engineering Merit program, aimed at students in electronics, electrical engineering and computer science. The company said the program drew more than 7,000 applicants and selected 100 students for scholarships.
That detail is important because semiconductor capacity is not only about fabrication plants. AI infrastructure depends on design, verification, firmware, packaging, interconnects and power-aware engineering skills. By pairing office expansion with scholarships and university collaboration, Marvell is presenting the India plan as both a near-term R&D scale-up and a longer-term talent investment.
For customers and partners, the practical significance is increased engineering capacity behind components that support hyperscale and cloud systems. For India, it adds another signal that global chip companies see the country as a growing base for advanced design work, even as manufacturing and packaging investments develop on a different timeline.
